The health area of Ibiza and Formentera has registered, during this weekend, four new infections by coronavirus.
All cases are located on the island of Ibiza where three of them have mild symptoms and will be followed up by the Primary Care teams. Regarding the fourth person who tested positive, this is the motorist who suffered a traffic accident yesterday.

We want to highlight that while the UK government advises its citizens against traveling to the Balearic Islands, The World Tourism Organization puts the islands as an example of a safe destination. The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) assures that Ibiza and the Balearic Islands are an example in the application of sanitary protocols and security measures to adapt the tourism industry to the current times, reducing “to the minimum the risk that a tourist will return infected to their country ».
The President of the Balearic Government, Francina Armengol, has pledged to continue fighting to achieve a safe corridor between the Balearic Islands and the United Kingdom and has said about the restrictions imposed that: “The decision of the United Kingdom is not based on sanitary criteria as they have changed their decision in 24 hours “. referring to the fact that initially the trips to the islands were not discouraged by UK government
Johnson’s reactions to the Covid-19 pandemic are striking, The British strategy against the coronavirus has been radically different from that of the rest of European countries from the beginning since it involved keeping many of the establishments open and allowing public meetings with the confidence of developing a collective immunization against the disease while all of Europe was confined.
While visitors to the Balearic and Canary Islands (places with a very low infection rate) must keep a 14-day quarantine, American visitors can move freely throughout the British territory despite actually United States is the country with the highest percentage of accumulated cases.

UK government has excluded Spain from the list of safe countries exempt from quarantine by the coronavirus, which means that people traveling from Spain to the UK must isolate themselves fourteen days on British territory, the Ministry of Transport confirmed this Saturday.
A spokesman for the ministry specified that the measure will apply to the entire Spanish territory, including the Balearic and Canary Islands.
The Government of Spain is negotiating with the UK to exclude from the quarantine the Balearic and Canary Islands, two island territories with a much better coronavirus epidemiological situation than the British.
This was explained by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arancha González Laya. Diplomatic sources expressed their confidence that the two Spanish archipelagos can be excluded from the quarantine decreed by the British Government in the next few hours through an agreement to make a “safe corridor” so that British tourists visit the islands do not have to quarantine when returning to their country.
On the other hand, the tour operator TUI has decided to maintain its flights with the Canary and the Balearic Islands after suspending all other trips to Spanish destinations after the imposition of a 14-day quarantine by the British Government.
As of today, there are 20 Covid-19 patients under treatment in Ibiza and Formentera and there are currently no infected healthcare professionals. The rest are asymptomatics or have mild symptoms and are followed by the home care units.
With this low incidence of the pandemic on the islands of Ibiza and Formentera, a positive response is expected from the British government.
We want to highlight that those of us who are currently on the islands of Ibiza and Formentera feel safe, life runs smoothly like every summer with the exception of finding the islands with great tranquility, especially due to the closing of clubs. Those with scheduled trips will find a more heavenly atmosphere than ever.

Protect Formentera, for you and for everyone! ‘, Is the slogan of the campaign in which the main application regulations are remembered to prevent the spread of the virus, which are based on “the mandatory use of a mask, the meter and a half of distance between people who do not live together and frequent hand hygiene ».
Regarding the use of a mask, the campaign specifies the main places where there are exceptions to the rule, such as beaches, swimming pools and also outside urban centers or while practicing sport or in situations of consumption of food or drink. In addition, it is highlighted that this rule is not applicable for children under six years of age.
The campaign will be disseminated on advertising media in different towns, but also among all restaurants and hotels, among other establishments.
The president of the Consell and head of Tourism, Alejandra Ferrer, explained that they want to ask visitors to also help them to protect Formentera because the pandemic is still active and a rebound in the island could mean going back to the starting box ».

From Monday 13/7 the use of a mask on public places will be mandatory at all times with a fine of 100 euros for those who do not wear it. The local government has clarified that there will be a first “warning” day to inform the population before starting to fine for this breach.
The Formentera Jazz Festival will be held between August 21 and 23, after it has changed its usual dates in June due to the Covid-19 crisis. It also returns with a more intimate and small format and has all the security measures to comply with health protocols and guarantee the well-being of musicians and assistants, according to the Formentera Council in a statement.
This is the sixth edition of this musical meeting in the jazz world, which offers variety both in terms of gender and international diversity. The festival was born from the hand of Formentera musician Maxwell Moya, who since then has directed the event with the support of the Consell de Formentera. It will have its main stage for the first time in the Sant Ferran square and will also take place in two of the island’s musical venues, Sa Panxa and Blue Bar, and it will also have the privileged location of Chezz Gerdi in es Pujols.
On this occasion the public will be seated, and the capacity will be limited, respecting the rules of social distance and the use of masks and hand hygiene will be maintained at all times to guarantee the general well-being.

The Health Area of Ibiza and Formentera reported yesterday that a new infection of coronavirus with mild symptoms has been registered, after two days without positive infections. On the other hand, 41 days have passed without registering infections between health professionals.
Ibiza will receive tourists with a health passport next July, as a pilot test of the tourist health passport project in which the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) collaborates, to which the island’s hotel sector has joined.
The initiative, called Ibiza Safe, aims to reduce the risks of contagion and give an immediate response to possible outbreaks of Covid-19, the hoteliers reported yesterday in a statement.
It is a mobile application, HI + CARD, that stores medical records supported by a “decentralized, synchronized and encrypted” (blockchain) database, based in Europe so that users can travel safely with full control of their data, detailed from the Fehif.
The objective of this application is to become a “true digital health passport” so that travelers can carry and manage their medical data “safely”, since all kinds of certificates and health records can be included, such as vaccines, allergies, chronic diseases, medication, etc.
As a last piece of news we highlight that as of July 6th, the United Kingdom will eliminate the quarantine of tourists from Spain.
16 June - 2020
12 June - 2020
As of today, there are 22 Covid-19 patients under treatment in Ibiza and Formentera, of which 15 are hospitalized although not all of them have the active virus but are recovering from the ailments caused by the virus. There are currently no infected healthcare professionals (none of these workers have been diagnosed for the last 25 days).
Formentera hopes to also be able to participate in the Government’s pilot tourism plan
The president expresses her wish that similar actions can be carried out with other markets “very important to Formentera” such as the Italian one.
The president of the Consell de Formentera, Alejandra Ferrer, has trusted that the Island can participate in the Government’s pilot plan to attract German tourism to the Balearic Islands from June 15.
As she reiterated this Wednesday in statements to the media, the pilot plan is “very good news and gives the possibility of carrying out a very important marketing action.”
Said action will take place at a time when the Islands have been “pioneers” in de-escalation, as the president has considered.
With these tests, the Balearic Islands will become the first destination in Spain to open up to the international market in the current crisis. The 10,900 tourists will arrive in stages and represent less than 1% of the visitors that were registered in June 2019 in the Islands. This figure is perfectly controllable, “said the president of the Balearic islands.
Tourists from anywhere in Germany can travel to the Balearic Islands. They will not have to pass the 14-day quarantine that currently applies to other international travelers, and they can stay in both tourist establishments and second homes.
The tourism plan does not contemplate carrying out previous tests in Germany, but the health checks will consist of a public health questionnaire on board the plane and a temperature measurement using thermal imaging cameras upon arrival at the airport. In case symptoms compatible with COVID-19 were detected in the questionnaire, a clinical interview will be carried out ‘in situ’ by a health professional, and if it is concluded with a suspicion of coronavirus, measures will be taken.
“Upon landing, travelers will receive a text message with relevant health information, such as emergency contact numbers and measures to observe. They will also be given information brochures. Tourists who wish to visit the Islands must provide contact numbers and inform where they are going to stay, since during the stay there will be a telephone follow-up to control the appearance of possible symptoms, “said the Minister.
Thus, if a tourist shows symptoms of coronavirus during their stay, a protocol will be activated by which the public health services will perform a PCR test. The tourist will have to wait for four hours in their accommodation for the result. If it were positive, he would be transferred to an alternative accommodation confirmed by the Govern. Likewise, a trace of the contacts would be carried out to rule out more cases.
This pilot plan will confirm that the Balearic Islands are a safe tourist destination from a health point of view and that the time has come to open to the tourism. The objective is for the tourist flow to increase from July to the end of October.

“We are working at the European level to see how we can, safeguarding public health, begin to reopen air routes to the best of our ability with caution, prudence and, logically, under the protection of a European response,” he said.

For the third consecutive day, Ibiza and Formentera have not registered new contagions of coronavirus, and there have been another two headings so the active cases are 29. Another positive fact is that it has already been 12 days without contagion from health professionals. Thanks to these good results in controlling the pandemic, Ibiza and the rest of the Balearic Islands join Formentera in phase 1 of opening, which involves opening of terraces of bars and restaurants and the possibility of holding meetings of up to 10 people among other advantages.
On the other hand, the good news continues on the islands with the announcement of the airline Lufthansa and the airlines of the same group, Eurowings and Swiss, that will fly from June to Mallorca. The three companies have announced a flight plan in which they will reactivate 80 planes, the schedules will be made public next week. In its statement, Lufthansa points out that they have had to program in the interest of their clients to fly to destinations such as Mallorca and thanks to the fact that Germany has gradually begun to lift the restrictions due to the health crisis.

We continue with good forecasts on the evolution of the pandemic on the islands of Ibiza and Formentera with the 73.6%, that is, practically three out of four confirmed coronavirus patients on the islands of Ibiza and Formentera have already been healed, according to the latest pandemic data provided by the Ibiza and Formentera Health Area.
Thus, at the moment only 31 cases remain active, of which 24 of them are hospitalized (five in the ICU) and the remaining seven are at home, given that they present mild symptoms, with medical control of the home units (UVAC).
In addition, the Health Area of Ibiza and Formentera highlight that no case has been diagnosed on the last 24 hrs and already 15 days “without regretting deaths in Ibiza”. In addition, they emphasize that in the last eleven days no new infections have been detected among healthcare personnel: there are currently two professionals with confirmed Covid-19.
On the other hand, in Formentera they continue to adapt to the opening and as a way to raise awareness among residents, the Consell de Formentera has launched the campaign ‘Move on a bike’ on social networks. According to the official statement, “The bicycle is an ideal transport to guarantee social distancing in this de-escalation process that we have just started, it is also sustainable and adapts to the territorial characteristics of the island”. The beach kiosks of Formentera await their protocol to be able to open with ease, complying with all the requirements of the health authorities and thus guaranteeing its clients the maximum security.
The tourism sector is optimistic about the news that the company Alitalia has started to schedule its direct flights with the island of Ibiza from 4/7. On the other hand, the Ryanair company continues with its scheduled flights also in June pending the development of the pandemic during that month. Alitalia follows the rhythm of other airlines that already allow buying tickets to Ibiza from Germany, such as Eurowings, in addition to a dozen low-cost flights that already have scheduled flights to Ibiza this summer.

The spokesman for the Committee for the Management of Infectious Diseases of the Balearic Islands, Dr. Javier Arranz, said yesterday that the transmission of the coronavirus in Ibiza and Formentera is controlled. “There is controlled transmission at the moment that we are having very few cases,” said Arranz yesterday, who also recalled that in Ibiza the level of infections is lower than in Mallorca, “especially in recent weeks.” He added that “if there are no cases coming out when more tests are being done, it is a good indicator that there are no undiagnosed people. The situation is good to progress in phases, the de-escalation ».
At the moment the situation in Ibiza and Formentera remains the same as yesterday, with 35 confirmed patients among those hospitalized and those with mild symptoms and receiving home care.
In addition, the Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) considers it unlikely that contact with water from swimming pools or beaches is contagious, although it warns that these activities generally involve “a loss of the recommended measures of social distancing”, they consider that it is “very unlikely “to become infected with the virus from contact with water during regular recreational activities in swimming pools or beaches. In the beach sand, the combined action of salt, solar radiation and temperature, is favorable for the inactivation of pathogens.
These conclusions are collected in a study carried out by the CSIC on the transmission of the new coronavirus in beaches and swimming pools, a report in which researchers from six scientific centers have participated.
On the other hand, according to the international press specialized in tourism, some countries are already starting to activate the process of opening up to international tourism, among others is Egypt, which aims to open borders in June and which are beginning to design protocol plans in airports and accommodation. According to experts, the Balearic Islands and to a greater extent Formentera and Menorca are presented as ideal destinations for both a national and international audience as an alternative to destinations further away from Europe such as Thailand or the Caribbean islands, and also because they have demonstrated to be very safe places that have had a low incidence of the disease. The two islands have a good selection of private villas that may be the best option for those who prefer to get away from the crowds and not give up on a well-deserved vacation.
6 May - 2020
Ibiza has added today a positive case with mild symptoms in the last 24 hours, this person will be followed by the home care units. Therefore, the number of active cases in the islands increases to 35.
In total there are 27 hospitalized in Ibiza and Formentera while there are eight people at home with mild symptoms, seven in Ibiza and one in Formentera. Another positive fact is that it’s already 9 consecutive days without infection between health professionals.
Meanwhile, the residents of Formentera adapt without problems and keeping the recommendations and precautions to the new state of opening setting an example of civic behavior in front of this health crisis.
On the other hand, according to the press specialized in the tourism sector, experts from the Oxford-Man Institute and the Paris-Dauphine University suggest that the smart resumption of tourism flows could be the solution to revive a particularly punished tourism industry. These experts propose to increase the unconfinement plans by regions (implemented at the national level by countries such as Spain and France) to the entire European territory.
Its approach is that, as the incidence of the virus decreases, mobility between regions gradually normalizes “following a green area strategy.” The idea is simple: to allow the mobility of people between “green areas” of different European countries through a network of regions certified by community institutions.
To take this step, it would be necessary to label each region with the color red (if the virus is not controlled) or green (if it is under control), in order to avoid the spread of the virus through the territory and to be able to restart the activity as soon as possible. According to the authors, it is extremely important that the indicators that determine whether an area is green or red are reliable. For this reason, both these indicators and the sanitary measures and mobility restrictions implied by these labels, “must be defined by the competent health authorities,” they emphasize.
The authors of the report stress that “allowing pan-European tourism in the summer months is probably the most important determining factor for the economic survival of several European countries.” “In addition to benefits for the tourism sector, the recovery could also be accelerated, for example, in the leisure and transport sectors,” they add.
At the same time, Germany is optimistic about the advance of pandemic control:
Germany’s federal tourism commissioner Thomas Bareiss told the Der Tagesspiegel newspaper on Tuesday that if the coronavirus outbreak is kept under control “people will be able to go abroad on vacation soon.” In fact, Germany is already in talks with other governments to plan the conditions under which German citizens can move to their preferred destinations (Spain, Italy and Greece) this summer. The most optimistic even believe that there will be German tourists in Spain from the second half of June.
The German government sees possible air travel even before a coronavirus vaccine is available. TUI, the world’s leading tour operator, also proposes that its clients start traveling to Spain from the second half of June, especially the Germans, whose government has been one of the most efficient in controlling the pandemic.
Along the same lines, Luis Riu, CEO of Riu Hotels, expressed himself, stating that June may be the beginning of the tourist recovery. Riu is convinced that the Balearic and Canary Islands will be the first destinations with national and international flights.
From now on, it is necessary to specify what sanitary measures must be agreed in the European Union so that citizens can fly, although some airlines have begun to operate, forcing passengers to use masks, among other measures.
In addition to the use of face masks, IATA proposes the implementation of additional measures such as passenger temperature control, limitation of movement within aircraft and increased cleaning and disinfection, among others.
In addition, he insists that the risk of contagion in aircraft is minimal, even without the adoption of special measures. IATA argues that there are several reasons for this low level of contagion on board aircraft. He cites, among others, that the high-efficiency particulate air filters of modern aircraft clean the air “with the same quality as a hospital operating room.”

Ibiza adds a new infected of coronavirus and stands at 34 active cases, according to data from the last 24 hours provided by Ib-Salut, so 34 confirmed infected patients remain active. The healing percentage stands at almost 72% and the total number of deaths on the islands of Ibiza and Formentera as a result of Covid-19 is 12 people.
Ib-Salut highlights that it has been eight days without finding infected among health personnel after the screening test done on more than 800 people who work in the health sector of the islands. The positive infected registered in the last 24 hours does not correspond to any of the travelers who yesterday could not board the first morning ferry to Formentera for testing positive for the fast antibody test. In these cases, Ib-Salut has performed a PCR test whose results will be known after 48 hours, according to the sources consulted.
Residents in Formentera are back to their daily habits despite the fact that there are no tourists on the island and the hotels remain closed waiting for Ibiza’s airport opening. The few businessmen who have opened their establishments are optimistic and also the residents who can move freely, without space or time limitations within the island, enjoying the first meeting on the terraces of the few bars open in Sant Francesc.
Most feel optimistic, in July some hotel establishments may open, villas and other types of private accommodation could be activated much earlier, depending on the opening of the Ibiza airport.
Meanwhile, the island’s inhabitants enjoy its paradisiacal beaches thanks to the high temperatures that already allow bathing in the sea, logically maintaining the safety distances imposed by the government health authorities.
Regarding the island of Ibiza, the Ministry of Health confirms that “it sees no problems” in that Ibiza could get into phase 1 in the same conditions as Formentera, it will be necessary to clarify some details in the documentation presented, as clarified by the spokesman, therefore, the change could be anticipated to the rest of the country.
The news from the specialized tourist press advance that the Dutch company KLM has announced today that it is going to reestablish its European network “gradually and prudently” and therefore will resume daily flights to eight destinations that had been canceled by the health crisis . Among these destinations are Barcelona and Madrid. Yesterday the airline restarted daily operations from Amsterdam to Rome, Milan, Budapest, Prague, Warsaw, Helsinki, as well as Madrid and Barcelona. The use of masks will be mandatory on all flights.
The offer in Spain is also complemented by Air France flights, with three weekly flights between Madrid and Paris-Charles de Gaulle, in addition to two weekly flights between Barcelona and the French capital.
In addition, Wizz Air started commercial flights in Europe on Friday when all countries have not yet fully started the opening phases, but it has done so with great security measures. The Hungarian airline forces passengers to wear face masks and delivers disinfecting wipes at the door of the plane. Boarding is done without any contact between the passenger and the airline staff, and the planes are disinfected after each flight.
TUI CEO Fritz Joussen has called on EU governments to urgently develop a ‘roadmap for travel’ to ensure as soon as possible that European citizens can go on vacation.
Joussen has pointed out that governments must provide a “clear perspective” on tourism within Europe, adding that a roadmap would help open up travel to countries that have made good progress in the battle against Covid-19. The CEO of TUI cited destinations such as Greece, Cyprus, Portugal and the Balearic Islands as possibilities for future trips.
The TUI chief executive has ruled out that holidays at home should not be the only option available to Europeans.
